What is CDP? Who can get CDP Addon?

CDP stands for Continuous Data Protection which is the technology we use for our internal backups. We are now offering clients limited access to their backup files through web interface. With cdp addon you can see your files backed up on the backup machines and can schedule a restore of any files(s). This is what CDP addon provides on a very minimal cost. This addon is available for all shared, semi-dedicated, reseller and linux vps hosting accounts (this is not available for windows vps). If you have a dedicated server you can purchase Data LockBox backup services to use this...

What are Backup Rotation Policies?

Each scheduled Backup Task can have an associated Rotation Policy. This policy is defined when creating the Task (Backup and Restore -> Schedule backups) or changed by editing the Backup Task in “Scheduler”. When defining a Backup Task, you can enable and specify the number of Incrementals(Recovery points) to keep. When the Backup Task finishes, it will launch a Rotation Policy Task. The Rotation Policy Task will check all other Incremental Backups created by the same Scheduled Task and delete the oldest Incrementals until only the last X Incrementals remain as defined in the Backup Task. Rotation Policies can be defined based on the following Recurrence Types: Hourly Daily Weekly Monthly Backup Rotation Policy Examples: Hourly – If you define a Backup Task with a Hourly Recurrence called Hourly and specify to only keep the last 10 Incrementals, then every time a Backup is taken the oldest Incrementals will be deleted until there are only 10 left. Only Incrementals created by the Scheduled Task described as Hourly will be counted in the 10 and be eligible to be deleted. Daily – If you define a Backup Task with a Daily Recurrence called Daily and specify to only keep the last 7 Incrementals, then every time a Backup is taken the oldest Incrementals will be deleted until there are only 7 left. Only Incrementals created by the Scheduled Task described as Daily will be counted in the 7 and be eligible to be...

Glossary of some terminology used in DataLockBox backup system

Disk Safe: Data on the backup server is stored in Disk Safe storage format. This on-disk format enables the backup Server to archive point-in-time recovery images for long periods of time using as little disk space as possible. The backup server then periodically connects to the backup Agent program (buagent) on the server/host being beacked up and synchronizes changed disk sectors to the backup server. The point-in-time images are called Recovery Points and are stored in a Disk Safe. Disk Safe Browser The Disk Safe Browser allows you to browse your Disk Safes, Devices, and Backup Images in a file system tree. Host A Host is a computer running a backup Agent-buagent. A Host is any computer that is being backed up by the backup Server and could be a desktop PC or a “server.” Incremental Backup An Incremental Backup is a Backup method where multiple Backups are kept (not just the last one). These Backups will be Incremental if each original piece of backed up information is stored only once. Successive Backups will only contain the information that changed since the previous Backup. Device A Device is a Partition on a Host eligible for Backups. For example, on a Linux Host a Device might look like /dev/sda1. Files Restore The Restore Files Task restores a set of selected files and directories. You can Restore files from the Disk Safe Browser. Rotation Policy Each scheduled Backup Task can have an associated Rotation Policy. When defining a Backup Task, you can specify how many Incrementals to keep. The Rotation Policy Task will look at all other Incremental Backups created by the...
